Secure Communication in Niagara – Putting the Pieces Together

This TridiumTalk will build on earlier sessions to provide a comprehensive view of Niagara's certificate management architecture.

Zoom

Oct 29 - Oct 29, 2026 / 11 AM EST

Digital certificates are essential to secure communication in Niagara, but understanding how Niagara manages and uses them can be challenging. With certificate stores in Workbench and on individual Niagara hosts, different signing tools, and certificates associated with various services, it's not always obvious how everything fits together.

In this installment of our Secure Communication in Niagara series, Product Manager Ruben Yanez-deLeon takes a step back to provide a comprehensive view of Niagara's certificate management architecture.

We'll explore how certificate management is organized across Workbench, Supervisors, and JACEs; examine the purpose of Niagara's different certificate stores; and illustrate how certificates are used by services such as HTTPS, FoxS, and secure platform connections. We'll also clarify the roles of Niagara's certificate-signing and code-signing tools.

Through practical examples and visual explanations, attendees will gain a better understanding of how these components interact and how to navigate certificate management with greater confidence.

Topics include:

  • Understanding certificate management across Workbench, Supervisors, and JACEs

  • Exploring the User Key Store, System Trust Store, User Trust Store, and Allowed Hosts

  • Understanding how Niagara services select and use certificates

  • Clarifying the purpose of certificate-signing and code-signing tools

  • Recognizing common sources of confusion and troubleshooting certificate-related issues

Whether you're a system integrator, facility engineer, or IT administrator, this session will help you connect the pieces of Niagara's certificate management architecture.

This session builds on our previous Secure Communication in Niagara TridiumTalks, but attendance at earlier sessions is not required.
