Lutron LEAP Driver

Overview

Works with the Caseta Smart Bridge Pro, the RA2 Select Main Repeater, the RA3 Main Processor, and the HomeWorks QSX Processor. Zones covering dimmers, switches, and shades become writable numeric points driven as a level, with shade tilt and fan speed also available. Occupancy groups become read-only booleans, scenes become writable booleans that fire on command, and keypad activity and areas can be monitored. Setup is a single pairing step at the bridge, after which the connection is encrypted and re-establishes itself with no credentials to maintain. From there, lighting can follow schedules, the astronomical clock, or weather; HVAC can react to lights being on; several Lutron systems can be joined; and Lutron keypads can drive third-party lights and shades. Runs on a JACE or a Supervisor. Licensing is perpetual, bound to the Niagara Host ID.

Do I need the LEAP driver or the LIP driver? LEAP for Caseta, RA2 Select, RA3, and HomeWorks QSX, which are the systems Lutron has moved to certificate-based integration. Our separate LIP driver covers the older and commercial line, including RadioRA2, HomeWorks QS, myRoom Plus, Quantum, and Athena, and connects with a login instead. If you are not sure which side your site falls on, send us the processor or bridge model and we will tell you. Which bridge or processor is needed? One of the Caseta Smart Bridge Pro, the RA2 Select Main Repeater, the RA3 Main Processor, or the HomeWorks QSX Processor. The driver connects to the bridge over the network and reaches every device in the system through it, so one connection covers the installation. What comes into Niagara? Dimmers, switches, and shades as writable level points; occupancy groups as read-only status; scenes as points that trigger on write; and keypad button activity and areas for monitoring. Discovery reads them straight from the bridge with the names already given to them in the Lutron software, so points are recognisable without renaming. If a project needs something outside that list, get in touch and we will look at it. Can it control shades and fans, or only lighting? Shades are handled as levels and can also be tilted, and fan speed can be set. Lighting, shading, and fans all come through the same point mechanism. How is the connection set up? By pairing once. Start the pairing action in Niagara and press the button on the bridge, and the station is trusted from then on. There is no integration username or password to obtain or maintain, and the station reconnects on its own after a restart or a network interruption. Is the integration secure? Yes. The connection is encrypted, and the station authenticates with certificates created during pairing that are unique to it. Removing the pairing removes the access. Do changes made at a wall keypad appear in Niagara? Yes, and immediately.
