BAS Advanced Design - DES100 (formerly Design for BAS Professionals) takes the student from start to finish through the process of designing a BAS. We begin by reviewing a set of mechanical drawings, specifications, and scope of work. We perform a mock sales to operations hand-off and then move through the process of creating a full set of submittal documentation. Along the way we address topics like, RFI’s, submittal rejection, close out documentation, and advanced design strategies like retrofit and IP controller designs. Audience
This course is targeted towards salespersons, technicians, project managers, and designers with at least 1 year of experience.
Pre-requisite knowledge
Awareness of the parts and pieces of BAS. Basic knowledge of IT networking concepts. 2 years of field experience or equivalent.
Additional Materials Required: Microsoft Visio and Excel
Objectives
- Design a complete BAS submittal package from scratch
- Perform key tasks like sales to operations handoffs and information requests

Key Topics
This course will teach the complete process of developing controls submittals from the sales to operations hand off to creating closeout documents and everything in between. Some of this course's key topics are:
- Learn the foundational pieces of the design puzzle that most folks miss.
- Learn the five different pieces of BAS hardware and how each piece functions within a full-blown BAS
- Walk through each step of the BAS design process. By the time you are done you will have produced a full-fledged BAS design (from scratch!)
- Learn the processes for handling submittal rejections and managing the RFI | RFC process.
- Learn how to generate close out documentation, manage the as-built consolidation process, and build final O&M packages.
- Learn the advanced strategies associated with designing BAS systems that you will encounter on complex BAS projects.
Successful completion will require:
Viewing all lesson videos in their entirety;
Completing and passing Knowledge Checks with a score of 70% or better;
Completing and passing the Final Exam with a score of 70% or better;
Completing the Student Course Exit Evaluation.
Upon successful completion you will:
Receive a Certificate of Completion and your name will be added to the certification database.
